To order a print book that is not available through the Health Sciences Library collection, we can use the InterLibrary Loan service. The library will borrow the book on our behalf from Education City libraries, Cornell University Libraries, or Weill Cornell New York Library.
To request a book through interlibrary loan, go to the top menu bar and click on the INTERLIBRARY LOAN tab.
The interlibrary loan (ILL) login page will open, enter your WCM-Q username (CWID) and password.
The ILL Main Menu page will open, under New Request on the left side, click on Book, and a new request form will open.
Fill in the form with the author(s) name(s), the book title, the date of publication and the ISBN which is the International Standard Book Number. This is a unique number that allows us to order the exact book we want as there might be other books with similar titles.
Note that other fields are optional. We might want to change the Not wanted after date field as it is automatically set to one month. We can also choose if we accept the item in a language other than English. Also, it will be helpful to provide the name of the database or website where we found the information about the book we are ordering, for example, Cornell University or Amazon, or Qatar National Library.
Once the form is completed, scroll down and click on Submit Request at the bottom of the page.
Once we submit a new request, we will be redirected to our Interlibrary loan homepage, this is where we can see a list of all the requests we have made. The following message will appear under the Status of the newly requested item: Awaiting Request Processing. This means that the request has been received and will be processed by our staff.
Once the book request is received our interlibrary loan staff will check if the book is available in any of Education City libraries, if not, they will check Cornell University libraries and Weill Cornell New York Library. It can take between one week and 3 weeks to receive the book by mail. We will be notified by email once the book is ready for collection from the Reading Room.
The book will be available for a 4-week loan period and can be renewed for another 4 weeks. However, if the book is recalled by the lending libraries, we will be requested by email to return it immediately.
Note that there may be overdue fines if the book is returned after the due date as other lending libraries have different overdue fines policy that may apply.
